Classes & teaching
How do online classes work?
Classes are taught live online in a virtual classroom with a maximum of 8 enrolled students. Each 2-hour session is 90 minutes of teaching plus 30 minutes of doubt time. Students join with a link from their student portal.
Which video platform do you use?
Classes run on Zoom (or a similar secure platform), with waiting rooms, passcodes and private chat turned off. Students join from the link in their student portal, so there's nothing to set up beyond the app.
When do classes run?
Weekly during Victorian school terms, after school on weekdays and on weekends. Each class has a fixed weekly time, shown when you choose a class.
What does a typical session look like?
A quick warm-up and homework review, then the tutor teaches the week's topic step by step with worked examples. Students try practice questions during the lesson so the tutor can spot mistakes early. The final 30 minutes are doubt time.
What is doubt time?
The last 30 minutes of every session are reserved for students' own questions — homework, school work, or anything from the lesson. We often use small breakout rooms so every student gets individual attention.
Why small groups instead of 1-on-1?
Small groups of up to 8 give students individual attention while also letting them learn from each other's questions — at a much lower cost than private tutoring. Students who are shy in large classes often speak up more in a small group.
Do you follow the school curriculum?
Yes. VCE classes follow the current VCAA study designs, IB classes follow the IB Diploma subject guides, and Foundation classes align with the Victorian Curriculum. We aim to stay slightly ahead of school so classes reinforce, rather than repeat, what students learn at school.
Do you use real exam papers?
Our notes, practice questions and tests are original material written by our team in the style of the real VCE, IB and selective entry exams, so students get used to the question types, difficulty and timing. They are not official or past exam papers, and we are not affiliated with or endorsed by the VCAA, VTAC or the IBO.
How accurate is the Mentis Predicted ATAR?
It's an estimate based on how your child performs in our regular exam-style tests, to show the trend and which topics to work on next. It is not a guarantee: official ATARs are calculated only by VTAC, using school assessments and final exams.
Is there homework?
Yes, a short weekly set of practice questions so students keep improving between classes. Tutors review homework and parents can see completion in the parent portal.
What does my child need for online classes?
A laptop or desktop computer with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a quiet space. A notebook and calculator (where relevant) help too. A tablet works, but a computer is better for longer sessions.
What happens if my child misses a class?
Sessions are recorded (with consent) and available to enrolled students in the student portal, so they can catch up. They can also bring questions to the next doubt time.
Tutors & safety
Who are the tutors?
High-achieving recent graduates with a 90+ ATAR (or equivalent IB results), a top study score in the subject they teach, and a valid Working with Children Check. They sat the same exams recently, so they know exactly what works.
How do you choose tutors?
We verify ATAR or IB results and study scores, check the Working with Children Check, and interview every applicant. New tutors are trained in the Mentis Method before they teach a class.
How do you keep students safe online?
Every tutor holds a valid Working with Children Check. There is no private messaging between tutors and students, tutors never see students' contact details, class links are only visible to enrolled students, and sessions are recorded with consent. We follow a written Child Safety Policy.
Are sessions recorded?
Yes, with consent, in line with our Child Safety Policy. Recordings are available only to students enrolled in that class.
For parents
How will I know how my child is going?
The parent portal shows the class schedule, attendance, homework completion and short notes from the tutor after sessions. You can also contact us any time.
Can I talk to someone before enrolling?
Yes. Book a free consultation and we'll talk through your child's goals and recommend the right class.
Which program is right for my child?
Foundation is for Years 7–10 building core skills, Selective Entry Prep is for Year 7–8 students preparing for the Victorian selective entry exam, and VCE and IB are for Years 11–12. Year 10 students taking an early VCE subject join our VCE classes. If you're unsure, book a free consultation.
Can my child try a class first?
We don't offer free trials, but your child can join one paid trial class at the normal session price. Trial students join as an extra seat, so a class may have one trial student on top of its 8 enrolled students for that session. If you continue, you simply enrol in the class.
Can my child change classes?
Yes, subject to availability. Contact us and we'll help find a better time or level.
Fees & enrolment
How does payment work?
Fees are per subject and billed monthly. Payments are processed securely by Stripe — we never see or store your card details.
Are there any sign-up fees?
No. You only pay per session, billed monthly, with no lock-in contract.
What is founding family pricing?
Families who join our first intake keep their current price for their first 12 months, even if our prices go up.
Do I pay during school holidays?
No. Weekly classes run during Victorian school terms only, so you're only charged for term weeks. Optional holiday revision sessions may be offered separately.
What if a class doesn't fill?
Classes run with a minimum of 5 students. If a class doesn't reach the minimum, we'll offer another time or a refund.
What if I need to cancel?
See our Refund & Cancellation Policy for details.
Do you offer 1-on-1 tutoring?
Not yet — 1-on-1 tutoring is planned for Term 1 2027.
Do you offer face-to-face classes?
Not yet. Join the face-to-face waitlist on our home page and we'll open in-person classes in the suburbs with the most demand.
